    Situation

Alex is a tough place for children to grow up. Poverty levels and unemployment are high. The lure of criminal activity, drugs and the danger of early pregnancy are ever present. The Aids pandemic left many children without parents some in the care of elderly grandmothers and some living in child headed households. Schools in Alex are overcrowded and many offering a poor standard of education. Despite these problems there is an abundance of talent in Alex that deserves support and encouragement.

    Solution

To help develop children's potential by supporting their educational needs in a number of ways. For some by paying school fees to attend schools outside of the township, transport to and from school, school uniforms for 30 (without which they cannot attend state schools) access to computers, pre- schooling for 140 young children and after school activities which take children out of the township to places of interest and learning which broaden their range of experiences and aspirations.
