Chickenshed’s children and young people have articulated their over-riding feeling following lockdown is the sense of a loss of connection. Many of them already experienced disconnection. It is crucially important to them to create projects to reconnect with each other and their communities.

Situation
Following months of isolation and social distancing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, children and young people are feeling disconnected from their communities. They articulate their communities as: their Chickenshed community; where they live; their schools; their global community of ‘children’; and their community of inclusion advocates. They need support to rebuild these connections, and establish new connections than enable them to share their message of inclusion more widely.
Solution
Chickenshed will support our children and young people to develop 9 new projects that will enable them to create connections with their community. These will be youth-led and will involve research and development with a steering group of 10, followed by creative workshops with 100 children. Each project will be supported by 5 Young Mentors as well as experienced inclusive theatre practitioners. The culmination of each will be a sharing with the community such as event, performance or film.
