Five Talents currently supports 1,200 families in Tanzania through Savings Groups which provide financial literacy & business skills training, as well as a safe place to save and access loans. With your support, we can reach an additional 7,900 families to build resilience and break the cycle of poverty.

    Situation

Over 28.8 million people in Tanzania live in extreme poverty, surviving on less than $1.90 a day. For such families, this can mean that children go without an education, nutritious food and access to healthcare. Climate change further increases poverty as drought and flooding destroy homes, land, crops and livestock. Families living in poverty aren’t seeking handouts, but a hand-up, to reclaim their dignity, confidence and ability to be self-reliant.

    Solution

Partnering with the local Anglican Church, we will develop and grow community-led, -owned and -governed Savings Groups. Through the Groups, members are trained in financial literacy and business skills, enabling them to set up or expand a small business, save and have access to financial services (loans and investments). As businesses, profits and savings grow, so too does the confidence and ability of members (particularly women) to provide for themselves and their families.
