    Situation

Frederick's Foundation aim to alleviate poverty by providing microfinance to enable people to achieve the dignity and self respect of supporting themselves through enterprise; To work with partners and volunteers to promote and support self employment and reinforce local communities through business. Frederick's is open to anyone who has a viable business proposition, but cannot obtain mainstream finance. We focus our work on the hardest to reach in disadvantaged areas, BAME, women & disabled.

    Solution

For 19 years Frederick's Foundation has helped people with business start up training and advice, access to finance when no one else will help, and long term mentoring and support. Critically we have identified that women are significantly discriminated against in terms of access to finance and business ownership. Only 20% of UK businesses are owned by women and so we have created a funds specifically for women. In addition we are trying to positively discriminate our outreach to BAME women.
