    Situation

Arab and Jewish citizens live in neighbouring towns and cities yet have almost no interaction with one another. This separation—exacerbated by a separate education system—severely limits exposure to each other’s language and culture and is a root cause of widening fissures within Israeli society. It was identified that both communities' youth's academic and employment opportunities would be enhanced by improved spoken English language learning.

    Solution

Bridging the gap between Israel’s separate Jewish & Arab education systems. Elementary & middle school students from school pairs will attend 8-10 lessons co-taught bilingually by their teachers, alternating locations between the schools. The English curriculum focuses on themes of shared society, inclusion, and empathy. We provide teachers with intensive pedagogical training and tools to navigate issues of identity that may surface in the classrooms. We advocate for national programme adoption.
