Our students use their passion for the arts to learn the life skills needed to live confident, independent lives. 60% of students have autism or difficulties with communication & social interaction (COIN) and need extra support to learn. More donations mean more students taught the Orpheus way.

    Situation

Communication is vital for learning and social development. The environment in which an autistic person studies has a major impact on their mental well-being. Young disabled adults with autism and other social or communication needs, experience high levels of stress. They can display obsessive or challenging behaviour. This makes learning difficult, resulting in confusion, stress, and low self-esteem. Students with these needs are often unable to cope in a mainstream college environment.

    Solution

Orpheus students find their own voice through the transformative power of music and the arts. Our curriculum uses performance as a vehicle for building confidence. We change the ways of learning to fit the student, so it is the student who is in control of their own voice. Through our Communication and Social Interaction (COIN) Hub, our specially trained tutors use these unique teaching methods to gradually integrate the students into the wider community at Orpheus.
