Help us provide creative opportunities for communities in Hartcliffe and St Pauls and address the inequality of opportunity and access to the arts. We will work with communities where provision for the arts is low, directly affecting individuals' learning, and limiting access to participation.

    Situation

It is increasingly difficult for individuals experiencing multiple deprivation to access the arts and arts education. Figures from Bristol City Council Quality of Life 2019-20 and the Index of Multiple Deprivation show: •25.4% of people in Hartcliffe never participate in cultural activity •Those satisfied by activities for young people in Hartcliffe is 19.3%, below the 38% average •St Paul’s Learning Centre, where we ran our early years project, is in a neighbourhood among the bottom 10% of IMD.

    Solution

By enabling access to the arts, individuals will develop skills in problem solving and collaboration which will support their personal and professional development, and help them navigate the changing nature of the workplace. Individuals will take part in tailored workshops in their communities, and we will provide tickets and fund travel to see BOV shows. As well as developing skills, the project will highlight pathways into the creative industries, thus supporting the sector’s sustainability.
