Let’s create a more honest 2021

In 2020, we saw bad information put our communities, our democracy and our lives at serious risk. But years of feeling let down by our politicians and media mean people don’t know who to trust. We all deserve better. Together, let’s stand up against bad information to create a more honest 2021.

Situation

In 2020, we saw bad information put lives at serious risk. Dangerous, unsubstantiated medical tips ranged from gargling salt water to holding your breath to treat and test for the coronavirus. Phishing scams preyed on people’s fears about the pandemic, while conspiracies about vaccines have led to vaccine hesitancy being a top 10 world health risk. Many of us don’t know who to trust, after a UK election in which harmful tactics were used on all sides and years of feeling misled by the media.

Solution

Full Fact is a team of independent fact checkers and campaigners who find, expose and counter bad information. We rely on our supporters to help people across the UK access impartial, reliably-sourced information on topics that affect their lives. When a journalist, politician or public figure gets it wrong in public, we demand they correct themselves publicly too. And where standards and institutions don’t support honesty, we push for change.

  • ”Full Fact is excellent at exposing untrue statements and is very balanced and measured in its responses. It is invaluable in its role of highlighting that information in the public domain cannot always be taken on face value.”

    — Rachel Timbs, Full Fact reader

  • "Full Fact is a beacon of reliability in a confusing world where misconception and deliberate misinformation are rife."

    — Richard Paterson, Full Fact reader

  • “Full Fact is an organisation that specialises in checking the claims of politicians and the media. So the panel had better watch out. Maybe we should have Full Fact on all the time?”

    — David Dimbleby, BBC Question Time

  • “What a great site @FullFact is. Strictly non-partisan fact checking done with clarity, diligence & grace.”

    — Stephen Fry
