Dance is something that can remove barriers and engage everyone whether that is Ballroom, Hip-Hop or Folk everyone should have the opportunity to dance. Situation
We recognise the need to create a coordinated and inclusive approach to Para Dance Sport and inclusive dance. There is a wide variety of dance groups - each working in silos, with certain groups within certain geographic areas around the county. Research showed that there were few coordinated dance opportunities for disabled participants despite being numerous able-bodied dance groups. Giving disabled people an opportunity to show what they can do & be part of no matter what the ability is key
Solution
From our activities, we have first-hand experience of reaching out to a range of people, including some with multiple disabilities and know that what we do can have an impact on their lives. There is broad scientific consensus that music and dance are impactful tools that enhance mood, especially when coupled with exercise, increasing levels of natural endorphins, which in turn help relieve chronic pain, reduce cortisol levels, and associated stress.
