This campaign has now closed

Hinksey Sculling School's aim is to offer any youngster in the community an opportunity in our sport, irrespective of a family's ability to pay fees. This year's campaign raises funds for our bursary fund and the development of our Indoor Rowing Base at the South Oxford Community Centre (SOCA).

    Situation

The alarming funding situation at State Schools in recent years has removed many opportunities for today's youth to try sports in schools. The sharp increase in screen time time spent on social media and video gaming has put bottoms on seats in front of screens. This surely contributes to the obesity problem and decline in mental health which are causing the NHS untold problems and cost. Loss of self esteem and aspiration we feel are also a result of no formal involvement in a sport.

    Solution

Rowing is often described as "The Ultimate Team Sport". A parent quotes "The kids my daughter started with all felt so nurtured and encouraged at every stage, and this is so critical to building confidence through sport." Participation in rowing at HSS develops commitment, physical and mental strength, teamwork skills, and builds strong friendship networks. We believe rowing can be a tremendous force for good in a young person's life, through its unique benefits and life-transformative impact.
