    Situation

Children from refugee, asylum seeker and migrant families are likely to disproportionately experience the long-term impacts of the COVID crisis, including increased incidence of hunger. Many parents already face food poverty due to destitution, loss of jobs, high debt and no access to benefits. Following COVID secure social distancing rules places increased stress on already stretched family budgets to access affordable good food and provide activities to promote good mental and physical health.

    Solution

AFRIL will support 70 children by our ‘COVID secure’ face-to-face/ virtual foodbank. Parents will get a weekly food bag for breakfast and 1 family meal a day. We will provide store cupboard essentials, fresh fruit, veg, milk, juice, toiletries, baby and sanitary goods to support weekly budgeting, reduce costs and encourage healthy eating. We will provide face-to-face / virtual advice, support, creative and wellbeing activities including budget recipes, keeping COVID safe and financial literacy.
