Friends of the Earth - Climate Ambition campaign

We're in a climate crisis. Like Coronavirus, climate change is already wreaking havoc on people’s lives and livelihoods across the world and we know it will get worse if we don’t act now. There’s still time but we must take every opportunity as the window is closing fast.

In little more than a century, human activity has increased global temperatures by around 1°C and we’re currently hurtling towards 1.5°C of warming in less than 12 years. Inadequate action at the national and international level means we’re still on course for a catastrophic 3°C of global warming. Every small increase in global temperatures means more alarming effects of climate change – from flooding and food shortages, to wildfires and species going extinct.

We’ll be supporting our 200+ Climate Action Groups across the country with training and resources so they can campaign for their local councils to adopt an ambitious 50 point Climate Action Plan. These plans give councils practical actions they can take to reduce emissions and make their areas more green and sustainable. We also have practical action plans for mayors. It’s vital that decision-makers do their bit to put the UK on track to meet our international climate commitments.
