    Situation

Niamh, age 21: “For people with chronic illnesses, lockdown has no start or end date.” One in four of the 250,000 people with M.E. in the UK are bed/housebound. Our 2019 Big Survey found: • 91% say isolation is a major issue • 33% need full/part time care • less than 10% are able to work full-time. Life with M.E. has been made harder by the pandemic, with higher demand for fewer services leaving many anxious, neglected and with little or no support.

    Solution

We’re the only UK charity supporting people with M.E. of all ages, while leading ground-breaking research. Our Crisis, Support and Advocacy Service, launched to meet the urgent need created by Covid-19, has increased our ability to support people with M.E. to make informed decisions, and secure essential practical, local assistance and services (e.g. food and medicine). By providing the right support at the right time, we can reduce the pandemic’s lasting impact on already vulnerable people.
