    Situation

The refugee young people we work with are substantially behind at every educational Key Stage, which can result in low attainment levels, challenging behaviour, risk of exclusion and restricted opportunities in life/employment. Lockdown has been particularly difficult for our young people because of interrupted schooling; lack of digital; dealing with traumatic experiences; lack of home learning support; low confidence; Special Education Needs not being addressed; overcrowded housing and loss of household income.

    Solution

Since 2004 KLS' Love to Learn team has provided a range of educational services for refugee young people including volunteer learning mentors, homework clubs, GCSE study groups, casework and advice. 10 p/t staff and 100+ volunteers work hard to broaden educational experiences, improve educational outcomes and experiences, and support aspirations of refugee young people in Wandsworth. The team needs a leader to increase the impact and deepen the scope and quality of the support we offer during these difficult times.
