This campaign has now closed

This pandemic will cause a rise in children, and mothers, who flee their homes after experiencing extreme abuse. Solace need funding to make sure all the children forced to leave their homes are supported, feel valued and can access both the short-term and long-term support they need to recover.

    Situation

Domestic abuse has drastically risen since Lockdown, in the first 3 weeks there were 16 domestic homicides, including children. Homes with domestic violence are likely to see a 45%-60% increased risk of child abuse (Psychology Today). 52% of children will develop behavioural problems and they are 14 times more likely to experience depression (Hughes 2017). For children that flee abuse they will have a variety of long-term and short-term needs to recover from the trauma they have experienced.

    Solution

Our project will tackle the problem of increased number of children needing support, and the short-term and long-term support that they will need to recover from abuse. Short-term needs will be met through immediate access to funds from Solace staff to provide any essential needs such as food and accommodation. Long term needs are emotional and practical support to children who have been forced to flee their homes through Family Support Workers through ongoing group and individual work.
