CLS is an orchestra whose musicians come together in the shared belief that music transforms the lives of people across all areas of society. We work in adolescent psychiatric hospital schools, hospices, family centres and community venues to ensure everyone can access live music and benefit from it

    Situation

Our work is characterised by bringing creative music making to people who are already socially isolated. It is essential in this time to continue to bring them live, interactive creative music making, as well as to prepare for the anticipated mental health and wellbeing issues post-crisis that music making can answer. Very young children, young people with sensory impairments and mental health illnesses and older people living with dementias need meaningful, creative interaction in their lives.

    Solution

Our musicians are experts at in-person creative music-making, and we will continue to deliver these essential, live interactions, online to a wide and diverse audience during lockdown. As social distancing restrictions are lifted we will continue to provide interaction to groups who are still in isolation (including children and young people in hospital), and use our expertise in acute mental health settings to answer the anticipated rise in young people’s mental health issues caused by lockdown
