Education and wellbeing support for young refugees

We are raising funds to enable young refugees to build hope-filled futures and to get the vital help they need to survive and flourish during COVID-19 and beyond. Situation

Young refugees constantly say how much education means to them, so COVID-19 school closures are hitting them particularly hard. Even at the best of times, they need help to overcome the challenges they face in moving forward in their studies such as previous gaps in education, English as an additional language, the impact of trauma, lack of access to technology, poor mental health and social isolation. Barriers to educational progression and social integration are exacerbated through COVID-19.

Solution

We will solve the problem through services and activities which enable young refugees to access, remain and progress in education. These include an educational mentoring project which matches young refugees with a volunteer who provides weekly education, confidence and integration support, a specialist education and wellbeing support project which offers additional help to the most vulnerable, and a COVID-19 emergency response to emerging needs eg for technology and extra mental health support.
