    Situation

1 in 7 11-16 year olds have a mental health disorder; 45% of these young people leave school before the age of 15. Each day 41 children are excluded from school. Over their lifetime, an excluded child will cost the taxpayer £370,000. Yet the isolation, fear and uncertainly caused by COVID-19 will have hugely exacerbated pressures on children’s mental well-being & engagement, especially those in crowded inner-city areas. All children should have the chance to thrive in education, society & beyond

    Solution

Jamie’s Farm reduces exclusion and boosts well-being by improving self-esteem, behaviour and engagement in 11-16 year olds. These outcomes are the result of a 5-day farm residential and follow-up where children are given real jobs with tangible outcomes, such as farming, gardening, cooking and horse work. Therapeutic 1:1s and group sessions focused on positive praise set them on a new path. We work in partnership with schools to ensure long-term impact, with powerful results.
