Lockdown has been challenging for everyone, but for those living with profound trauma, coronavirus has heightened fears and prolonged recovery. Children have been isolated from friends, school and any sense of normality after escaping abusive households. Unable to run around and play, they have been confined to small spaces for their safety. This could result in a long-term impact on their mental health and education.
That is why we are launching the Summer Wellbeing Programme. We know these families will continue to need specialist support with their recovery through therapeutic support and other essential items. Every donation made during Big Give will be doubled go directly to Summer Wellbeing Programme to help these families build a life beyond crisis.
This has been the best summer ever! I can't wait to go back to school and tell my friends all the fun things we've done. My favourites have been our trip to Chessington (which I suggested!!), going climbing and skateboarding, the summer fun day and I even learned how to code and made my own game!
I share a room with my 2 young children. Coming from a 3-bed house this has been hard to adjust to - I had been dreading the summer when they are both off school for 6 weeks! I'd been so anxious and not sleeping. When I heard about the refuges playscheme a weight dropped from my shoulders.
