We work with around 20,000 children every year- children from disadvantaged areas, children with SEN/D and children facing other challenges that limit their opportunities. We do this through: Farm Discovery visits to working farms, Countryside Discovery Residentials and Food Discovery programmes.

    Situation

By the time they start school, children from the poorest families are already falling behind in language and personal development. Access to the activities and opportunities that grow communication skills, build resilience and aid learning may not be possible. This issue is exacerbated by funding cuts in schools, with teachers having to make difficult decisions and frequently cutting the trips and visits that give these children the life changing experiences enjoyed by their more affluent peers.

    Solution

Our programmes open up a world which enriches children’s lives, builds a rich bank of experiences which fuels imagination and vocabulary, increases self-esteem and resilience, enables children to ask questions and make informed decisions about food and the world they live in, and allows them to experience the fun and freedom of being a child playing outside.
