    Situation

Msambweni Primary School has a room dedicated to being the library - it was built using funds raised through the Christmas Challenge in 2017. As yet, the library has very few books however. The school still lacks all the benefits that books and a quiet learning space provide. Additionally, most children do not have a text book. They are expensive In most classes, several children share one book. Sponsored secondary children face a similar problem: they can rarely afford the set book texts.

    Solution

Books in the library will mean that 800 children in the primary school will have access to books, to meaningful timetabled library sessions and to loan books for homework. Class sets of text books will make lessons more efficient and effective. At secondary school level, owning your own individual copy of a set literary text makes learning easier. English & Swahili are compulsory subjects; having one's own copy of the book is essential for meaningful understanding and revision.
