In 2007 we launched the world's first ever mobile cancer care unit and now we have 12 units in 34 locations up and down the UK. Our units are invaluable to our patients and their families. We rely on donations to keep the wheels turning as we receive no statutory funding.

    Situation

During cancer care and chemotherapy, patients often have to travel far to oncology units meaning their life becomes consumed by it and they have less time to spend with family and loved ones. We utilise mobile cancer care units to minimise travel times and costs for patients and make cancer a more minor part of their life. Each of our units cost £198 per day to run and we rely on donations to keep the wheels turning.

    Solution

Our mobile cancer care units visit 34 locations up and down the UK meaning cancer care is local and accessible to cancer patients. Our 12 units delivered 14,174 treatments in 2018 and can deliver up to 20 treatments a day. The units have been described as assets to local communities and our patients say they feel more relaxed on board. 1 in 2 of us are diagnosed with cancer every year. This number is rising by 3% each year, meaning the need for our work is only increasing.
