Situation
Evidence collected by the Communication Trust suggests that, in some areas, as many as 50% of children are starting school with delayed communication skills. Teachers report that as well as teaching reading and writing they increasingly have to teach Key Stage 1 (KS1) children (ages 5 -7) to speak and to play.
Solution
Speech Bubbles supports KS1 children with speech and language communication needs (SLCN). Sessions provide a different kind of experience to a clinical intervention, drama practitioners create a space which is collaborative, playful and fun. Speech Bubbles is an evidence based programme that uses a drama approach and works with schools to help children with SLCN to develop their confidence and communication skills through storytelling in a fun, collaborative and playful way.
