  • The great thing with Blesma is that they know exactly what to do. They don’t ask anything of you, they just say: ‘How can we help?’

Situation

Social isolation of limbless/injured veterans, their widows & carers. 1 in 4 adults in the Armed Forces Community recently reported often feeling lonely or socially isolated with bereavement reported as the greatest cause of loneliness. Disability, growing older and leaving the Armed Forces exacerbate these feelings. Carers are also vulnerable to loneliness. Those in rural areas require more local activities, as many are not able to attend national events due to travel, mobility or health issues.

Solution

Blesma will run monthly social activities across the North East, North West and Midlands to enable limbless veterans & widows to come together, share experiences & build friendships in their local communities. Activities:brunches, seasonal gatherings & supper clubs to help tackle social isolation/loneliness and contribute positive to their overall well-being. As a widow said:“It’s nice to speak to people who have been through similar things. When you live on your own, you do miss having a chat."
