The Story Museum has embarked on an exciting £6million Quest to create a fantastical place where you can experience 1001 of the world's greatest stories in many great ways. From 2020 we will reopen our transformed building but we need your help to reach our happy ever after and meet our target.

    Situation

Humans are storytelling beings. Children who grow up surrounded by stories develop vital intellectual and emotional skills, such as language and reasoning, empathy and imagination. Yet many children grow up in ‘word poverty’ which limits their achievement and aspirations. UK statistics on children’s spoken and written language, well-being, school and work force readiness, show this to be a growing problem with 1 in 6 people in the UK struggling with reading and writing.

    Solution

The Story Museum offers immersive, imaginative story experiences for all ages at our building in central Oxford and through our schools and outreach programme in the community. Our 'most unusual' Museum offers visitors the opportunity to open windows into other worlds through immersive exhibitions and a packed programme of creative events from storytelling, puppetry, author talks and family shows. Alongside our public programme we run a full schools programme of curriculum-enriching activities.
