This campaign has now closed

In April the Mara River dried up for the first time recorded. ITF are working with women groups and partners to plant 24,000 trees in the Mara River Basin. With your support we can help restore and protect forests in the Mara Reserve, improving livelihoods and planting trees for good this Christmas.

    Situation

Celebrated around the world for its beauty and diverse wildlife, the Mara is at risk. Noormichuki remembers a time when there were thick forests, wildlife and plentiful rain. Life has changed. Forest destruction and climate change have caused droughts and long dry spells. Like many families, Noormichuki relies on the Mara River and surrounding forests to survive. Women bear the brunt of these challenges, but with less education, are rarely in a position to make the changes they can see needed.

    Solution

We aim to plant 24,000 trees around the Mara River basin. Noormichuki and the women of the Mara are best placed to do this. Knowing how vital trees are in reducing soil erosion, improving land fertility, local climate and making a living. ITF has supported Noormichuki to manage tree nurseries to raise seedlings and to educate children in schools. Only with your generous donations can Noormichuki spread the word further and protect the Mara River for generations to come.
