Lendwithcare connects people enabling them to lend money to help people in developing countries help themselves. This appeal is to extend that support to refugees who are living in host communities, some of whom are in refugee camps, to start a small business and support themselves.

    Situation

Refugees living in a host community have to rely on aid from the host country or international aid agencies. Many of these refugees end up living in their host country for years. The issues arising from this situation are many, one of which is the psychological effects of receiving "hand outs" and boredom which can lead to violence. Another of which is animosity from the host community. In camps there is a need for services such as hairdressing, grocery shops, mobile phone charging.

    Solution

By giving refugees access to loans it will enable them to start micro business which will serve the needs of the refugee population (and sometimes the host community). However, due to the very small amounts of money involved therefore relatively high transaction costs, investment is needed to train local agents to disburse the loans and collect repayments, to buy the necessary technology to facilitate this.
