Years of civil war and recent political unrest mean Burundi is still ranked as one of the world's very poorest countries (World Bank). Food poverty is the norm and living costs have risen sharply. There is 70% unemployment in some areas. Even when parents can find work, they struggle to make ends meet. Few can afford meat, sweets, clothes for the children or a copy of the Bible in their language. Lack of training in basic financial or literacy skills compound the problem. It's a relentless cycle

GLO will provide gift of money for 500 needy families. With an average of 6 children per family, we will reach approximately 4000 men, women and children. Where appropriate, for some families, we will also offer training in skills, finance or literacy and for others, a microfinance opportunity. This initiative will allow at least 500 families to celebrate Christmas together and to have a great start to 2020, helping them break free from the poverty which holds them back.
