  • “I loved going to Honeypot & the best bit was making new friends... You won’t believe it but when I was told we had to go back home I actually felt tears in my eyes."

    — Jessica, aged 7, young carer for her mother

Situation

Many of the children who come to Honeypot care for a chronically or terminally ill loved one, or have a parent with drug, alcohol or mental health problems. Some will have been in a caring role from as young as 5 years old, which has been proven to put them at high risk of depression, anxiety, absence from school, social problems, bullying, isolation and poor mental and physical health. Many of these children do not have the opportunities that should be expected by all children.

Solution

By providing the following support, we aim to give young carers and vulnerable children a break from their caring duties: Residential respite breaks at our Honeypot House, Hampshire or Honeypot Pen y Bryn, mid Wales, every year from the ages of 5 to 12. Regular outreach support - Honeypot visits young carers in their own localities to provide Playdays. Maintain an on-going supportive relationship through birthday cards, photos and Christmas parties/Christmas Roadshow and presents.
