    Situation

For many years it was thought that people with RTT had extremely limited understanding and lacked the ability to communicate feelings, wishes and opinions. Thanks to eye gaze technology that is all changing but it needs time, patience and dedicated support to realise this. Parents/carers essentially need to learn a whole new language otherwise the person they care for will remain ‘locked in’ which is doing them an injustice and is detrimental to their health and well-being.

    Solution

High quality presentations from experts in the field on day 1, break-out sessions on day 2 from just getting started, to progressing to literacy with engaging activities to practise learning from day 1, the symposium delivers rich opportunities to develop the communication skills for people living with Rett syndrome. Open to professionals and families. Dedicated sessions on Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) empower parent/carers to be the best advocates for their child’s education.
