Rett disorders throw the whole body out of synch. This means many conventional treatments don’t work for people with Rett disorders - and can even make things worse. We need a personalised approach to understand how Rett impacts each individual, develop new treatments, and transform clinical care.

    Situation

Rett disorders are badly mistreated. Rett Syndrome has more than 50 symptoms. Patients are typically seen by many specialists focusing on narrow aspects of the disease without any overall oversight. Fragmented treatment leads to poor prescription, missed diagnoses, and unnecessary suffering. Mistreatment of Rett costs the NHS £42m p/a. We know far too little about treating Rett disorders: basic gaps in our understanding and infrastructure are holding back new treatments and our cure.

    Solution

Personalised medicine can transform the treatment of Rett disorders. A personalised approach means engaging deeply with each person’s symptoms, genetics and their response to treatment. It means using cutting-edge sensors and data analysis to understand how Rett disorders progress and change the body’s basic functions. A personalised approach will mean symptoms are diagnosed earlier, better and new treatments, and less unnecessary suffering from mistreatment. It will pave the way for our cure.
