    Situation

Children with additional, special or complex support needs, are often excluded from the sports and games which their peers take for granted. The situation is exacerbated for disabled children living in poverty whose parents struggle to meet basic needs. It is reported that over 30% of families of disabled children reported regularly going without food or heating, and therefore cannot pay to access specialist services and are unable to access mainstream support.

    Solution

KEEN London provides weekly one to one support sessions to disabled young people from some of the most disadvantaged parts of London. Being physically active has a multitude of benefits: improving physical health, mental well-being and encouraging social interaction and skills development. Attending weekly sessions reduces the social isolation that some young people with complex needs suffer and the regular respite helps support the well-being of families already under pressure.
