Physical activity and regular contact are key factors in the quality of life for older people. Our campaign will raise funds to deliver projects in the North East which bring together over 55’s with activities to keep active and healthy as well as the chance to spend time with like-minded people.
It ran from 12:00 PM, 3 December 2019 to 12:00 PM, 10 December 2019

"It give me a reason to leave the house and be more sociable," "By coming to the Beacon, I have met new friends, done things which I thought I would not be able to do and more importantly it has given me a more positive outlook on life."
The North East is expecting its population to become increasingly aged, with residents aged over 60 projected to increase from 24% to 31.2% by 2037. With increasing numbers of older people becoming less active and more socially isolated, the number of people affected is likely to continue to rise. If loneliness and wellbeing is not addressed it can become chronic, seriously affecting people’s health and wellbeing with lonely people more likely to report mental and physical ill-health.
By bringing people together in a comfortable, familiar environment, we will allow them to shape their path to improved mental and physical well-being. We will bring together over 55’s to promote and facilitate regular social gatherings which showcase relevant local organisations and other services available to them whilst taking part in fun and creative activities including a 30-minute element of physical activity.
