Hinksey Sculling School's aim is to offer any youngster in the community an opportunity in our sport, irrespective of a family's ability to pay fees. At the same time we must offer a fee scale, to those who can afford to pay, which delivers exceptional value with high-quality coaching provided.

    Situation

Over years, state school playing fields have been sold off and opportunities for the youth of today to try sports in schools has diminished. The arrival of computer games and increasing amounts of time spent on social media has put bottoms on seats in front of screens (6 hours a day we have heard!). This surely contributes to the obesity problem which is causing the NHS untold problems and cost. Loss of self esteem and aspiration we feel are also a result of no formal involvement in a sport.

    Solution

Rowing is often described as "The Ultimate Team Sport". A parent quotes "The kids my daughter started with all felt so nurtured and encouraged at every stage, and this is so critical to building confidence through sport.” Participation in rowing at HSS develops commitment, physical and mental strength, teamwork skills, and builds strong friendship networks. Rowing is known to have a positive impact on academic achievement, further contributing to the personal development of our youngsters.
