This campaign has now closed
This year is our 10th Anniversary! We have a school for 275 poor children in a Mombasa slum providing quality education and a feeding programme. The ground floor is complete. Construction of six classrooms on the upper storey has started and when finished all will be under one roof which will save £5,000 p.a. in rent.

Situation
Primary School has been free in Kenya since 2003 but no new schools were built and no additional teachers were employed. As a result children are in very badly resourced classes of 80 to 120 and are taught by rote. They cannot attend school if they do not have shoes, uniform, stationery, textbooks and are unable to pay for afternoon tuition. The quality of education is very poor. Those who can afford it send their children to private schools but many of these have unqualified teachers.
Solution
We have a school for 275 poor children providing quality education and a feeding programme in classes of 25. We have built the ground floor of our own building which consists of five classrooms, offices, toilets, a staffroom, clinic and kitchen. Half the children are in this building and half are in rented premises. When we have built six classrooms on the upper storey all children will be in this building. This will be much easier administratively and will save us £5,000 per year in rent.
