Christmas can be a challenging time for patients with life limiting illnesses and their families. At St Michael's Hospice, we believe that Christmas should be as special as it can be for families and we endeavour to ensure our patients are as comfortable as they can be at this special time of year.

Situation
Christmas and New Year can be an especially distressing time for those affected by progressive life limiting illnesses. Many patients have no choice over when or where they might receive vital palliative care over the festive period. We would like to ensure we have the resources necessary to ensure that we are able to offer patients and their families a say in where they would like to be cared for over Christmas, whether that be in in their own homes, or within the Hospice environment.
Solution
We will offer services over the Christmas period that will enable patients to be in their chosen place of care, surrounded by those they love. Whether this be receiving care in the family home or within the Hospice, we will make Christmas as comfortable and as special as it can be for those families, for what may be the last time.
