Toynbee Hall supports young people in East London to make a difference in their community and tackle the issues they care about most, by equipping them with the tools they need to have a positive impact and enhancing their future prospects. Through providing practical skills training, networking opportunities, and mentoring, we develop aspiration and leadership in local young people to help create the next generation of change-makers.

    Situation

Over half of children in Tower Hamlets, where Toynbee hall works, live in poverty. We also have the second highest number of young people who are NEET of any London borough. The strain this combination causes intensifies the challenges young people face, undermines their relationships, and heightens their sense of powerlessness. Together, these challenges can limit individuals’ opportunities for success and their ability to make a positive contribution to their community.

    Solution

We will build young people’s confidence to be change-makers in their communities – from supporting them to work with peers on social action projects, to building their leadership skills and capacity to influence local decision-making. We will partner with youth clubs, faith groups and young carer organisations across the borough to work with a broad range of young people and support them to develop their aspirations, skills, and confidence to enact positive local change.
