Central provides outstanding conservatoire training for the performing arts; we are determined to offer this to as wide a range of young people as possible. Scholarships and Bursaries help break down the barriers which deter applicants from groups underrepresented in the industry.

    Situation

Tuition fees from £9,250 a year ... Cost of living in London £15,000 a year ... The purchase of equipment. The prospect of high costs and large debts can deter some who consider applying to Central. This leads to the underrepresentation of some groups benefitting from our training for the performing arts, and therefore underrepresentation in the industry itself. The situation is that the diverse voices of our communities are not being represented in the stories being told on screen and stage.

    Solution

We will overcome the real and perceived financial barrier to applying to Central by offering Scholarships and Bursaries. Scholarships between £5,000 and £10,000 help with the costs of tuition fees and living costs, and are awarded on a combined basis of merit and financial need. Bursaries between £500 and £5,000 help with living costs, including the purchase of equipment, and are awarded in response to financial need. Both are available to applicants and to students throughout their studies.
