Plant Your Future

Fighting climate change faster with sustainable tree planting in the Amazon Rainforest

The Amazon Rainforest is the most impactful place in the world to plant trees and fight climate change. This December, we kick start Plant Your Future’s plan to plant 1 million trees by 2023 and ensure they survive and thrive — maximising their effectiveness in the fight against climate change.

The most effective and immediate action we can take to restrict global warming to 2ºC and tackle the alarming realities of climate change is to plant trees in the tropics where they grow fastest and take CO2 out of the atmosphere quicker. But in Peru, 160,000 hectares of rainforest is cut down annually — driven primarily by a cycle of poverty that, with a lack of alternatives, leads farmers to cut down the rainforest to grow crops simply as a way to subsist.

Plant Your Future’s grassroots model addresses a significant driver of deforestation — poverty — by putting the resources and knowledge needed for sustainable tree agriculture into the hands of disadvantaged smallholder farmers in the Peruvian Amazon. Farmers so often miss out on global investment in farming, forestry and climate change mitigation projects, but your donations help empower them to establish agroforestry systems and harvest sustainable rainforest fruits, timber and carbon credits.
