Winter can be a particularly challenging and isolating time for our older neighbours. That's why we will run our annual Winter Wellbeing project; A proactive Outreach effort during which we will speak to hundreds of older neighbours to ensure they're keeping warm, well, active and connected.

    Situation

Winter can be isolating - especially for the 1 million older people who say they often or always feel lonely. That's because leaving the home becomes doubly challenging, increasing the risk of social isolation. What's more, high fuel costs and poor insulation can cause financial strain, and there's added pressure on the NHS and local services as harsh conditions increase mortality for an already at risk group. At a time when we should be looking out for one another, the tendency is to retreat.

    Solution

Our Winter Wellbeing project mobilises people and places across our community to support the most isolated older neighbours across our patch to stay warm, active, healthy and connected during the toughest time of the year. We will strike up conversations with older people we meet (in places like GP surgeries, pharmacies and supermarkets), distribute warm items, refer older neighbours to other local services and welcome them to our daily Social Clubs for company, conversation and companionship.
