This campaign has now closed

Every year, we work alongside 300 asylum seekers and refugees in Bristol by providing accommodation and creative engagement. Our new project will enable members seeking asylum the chance to develop much-needed employability skills and increase their voice through volunteering.

    Situation

Asylum seekers experiencing destitution (our members) are not allowed to work, excluded from any public funding and living on the margins of our society. We host up to 30 people in this situation at a time in our charity. They have so much to give. Many of them give lots of time as volunteers to our charity but need more support to develop their work-ready skills.

    Solution

This is why we have devised our new ‘Developing Leaders’ project. Your funding will help us pay for a specialist BHN Volunteer Coordinator, who will manage our volunteering opportunities. We will also develop our existing Member Forum and Member Speakers Group through tailored training. Finally, we will also offer a six-monthly Member Internship scheme, where members can learn more about working in the charity sector. Our ultimate aim is to empower members to develop their confidence and voice, to become leaders within BHN and their community
