    Situation

Children as young as nine years old can face challenges for a number of reasons. We work closely with social services and other agencies to reach children who are most in need of support. Through Freefalling, we offer children a tailored drama programme, the chance to make friends, build confidence and develop their own performance with creative practitioners for the main stage at Polka.

    Solution

We use the first term to build confidence and self-esteem through games and role play work. This gives the children the chance to make new friends and improve communication with peers. Then we introduce more skills-based work and encourage using these new skills to create short plays. In summer the ensemble devise and perform a 30 minute play, developed from participants’ ideas, so the children gain pride in their achievements, confidence in learning environments and stronger community ties.
