    Situation

The AIDS epidemic struck hard at already impoverished communities in Southern Africa. In Eswatini, the extended family was left to absorb so many orphaned children that many were unable to pay school fees and uniform costs. The devastation was so severe that child-headed homesteads households became common. Medical interventions have improved life expectancy and ending school fees for primary schools has considerably reduced the impact. There are however still many families needing support.

    Solution

By paying for uniforms, schools fees, and associated costs the SCT enables orphaned children to continue their education without interruption and giving them the chance to complete their schooling. Supported children stay with their remaining family members.
