The Big Idea is: To contribute to reduction of Young People (YP) ‘risky behaviours’ by delivering Mobile Health Cafes into the remote communities of Somerset to isolated people aged 13-19 to help them develop positive and informed choices about their health in relation to alcohol and substance use.

Situation

Both National and local surveys stress that YP aged 11–17 take risks with their health reference alcohol and substances; amongst this group, levels of alcohol use rises rapidly, over 1 million children drink alcohol weekly; 16% of year 10’s reported being drunk at least once in the last four weeks. DCSF Tellus Somerset survey suggested that if YP were able to access support for problems and worries it could reduce their likelihood of developing substance and alcohol misuse problems.
