Creative Ladder is a three year community arts programme, being launched in September 2010, for disadvantaged children and young people in Brighton & Hove. The aim is to provide them with learning opportunities and live art experiences with professional artists to enhance their lives.

    Situation

    In 2008 Komedia Productions (KP) hosted a childrens festival of free taster workshops in a variety of art forms, this was so successful that many had to be turned away. In particular parents of disabled children need accessible and affordable creative experiences for their children. Brighton & Hove Council have launched an arts strategy to target disadvantaged communities (non-attenders) and they see KP as unique in being able to centrally host a variety of youth activities for large numbers.

    Solution

    KP is putting in place a programme of professionally run activities to develop the skills, talents and artistic expression of these disadvantaged groups. KP is contacting community groups, charities and Council services to reach specific participants, an
