    Situation

    Drained or dug-up for peat, mosslands emit vast amounts of carbon dioxide, heating up the planet. In fact, the degraded mosslands of England could be ‘leaking’ as much carbon into the environment every year as 110,000 cars. Mosslands are also important habitats for wildlife like reptiles, spiders and dragonflies.

    Solution

    In our Trust area alone, there are 840 hectares of mosslands that can be restored as carbon sinks, with the potential to absorb the carbon footprints of 25,657 people. A major part of restoring a mossland, once the Trust has acquired the site, is to "re-w
