    Situation

6% of children in Wales have experienced live music (ACW Children's Omnibus 2008). Children are at risk of being denied access to an important part of contemporary culture and their classical music heritage especially in isolated rural and deprived communities in Wales. Ensemble Cymru’s survey of primary schools shows that bilingual resources for schools which inspire children to broaden their musical horizons through listening, playing or composing classical music are scarce or non-existent.

    Solution

Ensemble Cymru’s Chamber Orchestra will record Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf for children in Welsh and English. Performances will enable many children in some of the most deprived communities in the UK to experience classical music for the first time.
