    Situation

    There are thousands of children and young people in Rwanda driven into living on the streets by the combined secondary effects of the 1994 genocide (HIV infected mothers, unwanted pregnancies from rapes, lack of an older generation, etc), abuse, neglect, substance abuse, the HIV crisis and extreme poverty. There are no social services to protect this vulnerable population and as such there is no way for them to escape the desperation of their situation without assistance.

    Solution

    We founded a centre in 2008 that provides a desperately needed home for 26 homeless children and young people who have been orphaned, neglected or abandoned. The centre provides shelter, education and guidance. We also work to reunite children with their
