Young people interview refugees and survivors. They themselves design, conduct and film the interview, and later edit the result as part of a DVD which will be available for educational purposes.

    Situation

The end goal of this project is a DVD which schools can use where and when survivors are not available in person. The reason is that the history told by a survivor enables people to feel empathy, not only with that person, but also with one another. Empathy is an essential skill for social relationships. The planned DVD is already designed for step-by-step learning. Some of the elements are already in place. Eight interviews have been recorded on film, and forty two more are planned to include a wide range of histories. Each interview involves someone who has come to the UK as a refugee, and a group of 8-10 young people, with technical media help, and a facilitator to assist in presentation skills and asking open questions. Each interview costs about £600 to produce, ready for editing. £25, 000 will complete the interviews for 42 survivors of genocide, and about 350 young people.
