We want to expand our successful microfinance programme to a new region of Tanzania; Morogoro. In 1 year, we will give 600 vulnerable households sustainable access to a safe place to save, small loans to expand their microenterprises and the financial literacy and business skills to use them wisely.

    Situation

    68% of Tanzanians live on under $1.25/day. 66% have only primary education. 83% of rural households are unserved by banks. Women are particularly excluded, with only 10% having a bank account even though they are often the breadwinners for their children. Only 5% of the population are formally employed. The rest rely on their own microenterprises for survival, but they have neither the training nor access to capital to enable their businesses to grow. Thus profits remain low and households poor.
